Parent Barring Notices
A barring notice can restrict where a parent, carer or other visitor may go and how they may communicate with an education or care site. The exact conditions are set out in the written notice.
What a notice may cover
- Entering the school or other education premises.
- Attending off-site activities or approaching site boundaries.
- Contacting staff, except in the ways specified in the notice.
- The period the restrictions remain in effect.
Your child’s attendance
A barring notice issued to a parent or carer does not stop their child from continuing to attend school or preschool.
The notice should explain how you can communicate about your child and how drop-off or collection arrangements will operate.
If you receive a notice
- Read every condition and keep a copy of the notice.
- Follow the conditions while any application or review is being considered.
- Use the enclosed form to ask for the notice to be changed or withdrawn.
- If a government-site notice lasts 2 weeks or more, check whether you can also apply to the Minister for a review.
- Keep communication factual and use only the contact method permitted by the notice.
